MÜHLE GLASHÜTTE

Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte is now the only watch manufacturer in the German town of Glashütte that is still owned by a long-established local family. Our family has been based in the Glashütte region for more than 700 years and has been working in the town’s watchmaking industry over a total of now fifth generations without interruption.

The family company was founded by Robert Mühle in 1869. He initially produced highly precise measuring instruments for the watch manufacturers in Glashütte and then went on to also make speedometers and rev counters. The company’s current focus emerged under the management of the fourth generation of the Mühle family: the production of high-quality wristwatches, marine time systems and other nautical instruments. Although the type of measuring instruments manufactured by our company has changed over the last 150 years, we are proud to declare that the name “Mühle” has now represented precision and precise measurement in Glashütte for five generations.

In a family business, the development of new movements is also largely in the hands of the family. Which complications are useful for a Mühle watch? What characteristics must a movement have?

A “Mühle” is still the best judge of that. Together with our engineers they are creating special new movements & complications.

We place the highest demands on the quality and precision of a watch movement. That is why we manufacture components for our wristwatches ourselves. Using state-of-the-art CNC machining centers, we are able to manufacture the components we design to within a thousandth of a millimeter.

These are then further processed by hand into a ready-to-assemble workpiece, with precise checks at every step to ensure that they correspond exactly to our ideas. This is a result of our tradition. After all, it was Robert Mühle who began manufacturing measuring instruments for the Glashütte watch industry in 1869.

Since 1994 we at Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte have been manufacturing marine chronometers and ship clock systems for professional shipping. We found that nautical instruments in general have a special kind of beauty. That is why this maritime world of hands, dials and brass housings should not only be on board of a ship. And so we have ship clocks, barometers, thermometers and hygrometers in their nautical form for your home or for the office.
