Kollokium - Projekt 01 Variant “E”
Kollokium's Projekt 01 is a neubrutalist watch project. With its fourth iteration (Variant “E”), kollokium is making a statement. It has a die-cast steel case and a 3D dial with 468 individually hand-applied cylindrical hour markers in black PVD steel, which come in six different diameters and heights. Each of these cylinders are sandblasted, then filled by hand with the same grey luminescent paint as the dial, glowing with a blue light emission.
This release comes in a combined limited edition of 499 pieces, split into two sub-variants (E1 and E2) with different hand sets (either a fluorescent yellow seconds hand or hour and minute hands). The first release aimed to set the creative vibe for future projects. The Variant “E” dial is a 3D reconstruction of a pixelated image, with 12 hour markers, and features a subtly textured grey base with black PVD steel cylindrical markers filled with grey luminescent paint that glows blue.
Ensuring readability was important, especially with the grey and black tones. The hands were carefully chosen:
Variants "E-1”
Black hands with grey luminescent outlines.
Fluorescent yellow seconds hand.
Variants “E-2”
Grey luminescent hands with fluorescent yellow outlines.
Grey seconds hand.
The case is made from 316L stainless steel through die casting, giving it an industrial look with rounded edges and a unique texture. The two-part construction includes a barrel-shaped caseback, cruciform screwdriver-inspired lugs, and a triangular valve-shaped crown. With the fascinating sapphire box crystal is level with the dial and has anti-reflective coating.
The watch measures 40mm at the widest point of the caseback, 38.5mm for the cylindrical part, and 11mm in total height. The short lugs make it sit close to the wrist. The strap, inspired by outdoor gear, is elastic, breathable, and has a hook fastening system. Kollokium uses the Swiss La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement with a 68-hour power reserve.
Kollokium was founded in 2020 by three friends, Manuel Emch, Barth Nussbaumer and Amr Sindi, who had different paths in the watchmaking industry but shared aesthetic sensibilities. Contributing to the creations of many Swiss and international watch brands, their strong mutual desire to build something couldn't be ignored. Kollokium aims to make timepieces that are mechanical but transcend traditional watchmaking, incorporating elements from architecture, design, contemporary art, and sub-cultures. It represents watchmaking from a new perspective.
