Independent Watch Purveyor The Lavish Attic Celebrates 11 Years of Horological Excellence with the Sale of Six Unique Pieces in Partnership with Phillips Auction

The Auction features one-of-a-kind lots from Louis Erard x Vianney Halter, Lang & Heyne, HG Timepiece x De Bethune and more

Asia's premier independent watch purveyor, The Lavish Attic marks its 11th anniversary with an auction featuring one-of-a-kind pieces from six revered names in independent watchmaking as part of Phillips' Hong Kong Watch Auction XIX on 23 November 2024.

Ahead of the sale creative minds behind the six unique timepieces— Lang & Heyne, Louis Erard x Vianney Halter, Holthinrichs Watches, HG Timepiece x De Bethune, Konstantin Chaykin, and Reservoir— will gather for an intimate anniversary celebration at The Lavish Attic's boutique in Central Building on 22 November. A panel discussion on 21 November at Phillips’ West Kowloon Headquarters provides a closer examination at the six unique pieces.

Since its inception in Hong Kong over a decade ago, The Lavish Attic has stood as a beacon for the independent watch community in Asia. Its founder, Ms Piano Chow, shares that same spirit of creativity and innovation that drives small yet formidable watchmakers and has been at the helm of curating a unique selection of niche timepieces. The boutique is a catalyst for growth for the independent segment in Asia; it has become the beating heart of an intimate community of designers and enthusiasts that celebrates a shared passion for unconventional artistry and exceptional craftsmanship.

A decade into its horological journey, The Lavish Attic is the proud partner of some of the most respected independent forces in the watchmaking world. Through her deep love for the industry and personal friendships with watchmakers, Ms Chow and The Lavish Attic present this unprecedented lineup of unique pieces from six celebrated artisans for sale.

And in the continuous support of those who continue down the audacious path of independent watchmaking, The Lavish Attic will donate a portion of the proceeds of the sale to the Albert Hausammann Foundation to nurture a new generation of Asian students pursuing watchmaking.

HG Timepiece X De Bethune- Marc Newson Hourglass

Industrial designer Marc Newson's Hourglass measures at a 20-minute interval, uniquely in the colour purple, for the first time– HG Timepiece and watch brand De Bethune created this new rendition of the timekeeper drawing from both brands' proprietary know-how. The heat-treated purple stainless steel nanoballs draw upon De Bethune's terminal oxidation technique, while HG Timepiece produces a new size from a single piece of hand-blown borosilicate glass.

Holthinrichs Watches- Ornament Nouveau

The visual aesthetics of Art Nouveau architecture continue to be the driving force behind Dutch watchmaker Michiel Holthinrichs' brand. A year after establishing Holthinrichs Watches in 2016, the brand began to further pursue its dreams. The result is the ultimate three-dimensional wrist sculpture, the first serially Dutch-made model, the Ornament Nouveau.

The titanium piece features an openwork dial that exposes the Cal. HW-M02 calibre and its glass bridge when hidden from UV light. The ingenious “Eclipse dial” provides both a stunning visual impact and protects the watch's oils from degradation by sun exposure.

An engraved main plate appears in the reference for the first time, marking the partnership between The Lavish Attic and the watchmaker.

Konstantin Chaykin- The Panda Piece Unique

Konstantin Chaykin puts a tongue-in-cheek, literal twist on the panda dial with a unique take that celebrates The Lavish Attic as the quintessential East-meets-West bridge between watchmakers and aficionados. The Panda Piece Unique showcases the watchmaker's signature dial design with the hours and minutes sub-dials depicting the panda's eyes and black carbon fiber ears doubling as upper lugs. An open sapphire case back reveals the La Joux-Perret G200-based automatic movement with a 68-hour power reserve.

Lang & Heyne- Moritz No. 53

Co-founded by Marco Lang, the German watch brand Lang & Heyne has had a limited number of timepieces since 2005. Among its most celebrated complications is Moritz, which debuted in 2015. The triple calendar timepiece comes complete with an additional complication that measures the length of each day in relation to the angle at which the sun hits the earth.

Moritz No. 53, built circa 2015, the year the reference was conceived, features the silver dial. The watch, created especially for The Lavish Attic's anniversary auction, has an interchangeable salmon dial, first and only for Moritz, and a set of purple hands.

Louis Erard X Vianney Halter - Le Régulateur

The previously sold-out Le Régulateur by Louis Erard in collaboration with Vianney Halter, launched in 2020, is revived as a unique specimen exclusively for this The Lavish Attic sale. The watch retains the original aesthetics of the reference as inspired by 19th-century regulator clocks and the automatic calibre Sellita SW266-1, with the added features of an engraved case back, a satin finish and a signed oscillating weight. A pair of matching cufflinks by Vianney Halter and art painting completes this commemorative piece.

Reservoir- The Panda Edition

In yet another homage to the impact of The Lavish Attic on the Asian watch-collecting community, French brand Reservoir presents its own take on the adorable panda depicted in its natural habitat. The panda comes to life in Superluminova through the meticulous brushwork of miniature artist Philippe Jacquin-Ravot. The watchmaker's signature retrograde minute and jumping hour movement brings momentum to The Panda Edition timepiece.
