A Legacy of Time: Albert Hausammann and Hong Kong
A Visionary's Journey
In 1967, a fateful job offer took Albert Hausammann from his Swiss homeland to the vibrant metropolis of Hong Kong. This move would not only shape his career but also leave an enduring legacy in the world of horology.
Hausammann joined Swiss Import Export Trading Co. Ltd., a company renowned for its exclusive agency of high-quality Swiss luxury watches, introduced prestigious brands like Breguet, Vacheron Constantin, and Jaeger-LeCoultre to the market in the 1960s. It was a time when the most coveted independent brands we know and love today were still relatively unknown and perhaps not even conceived yet. His passion for horology and his astute business acumen quickly propelled him to a leadership position, where he eventually took over the company.
Over the years, Hausammann forged strong relationships with renowned Swiss watchmakers. His deep appreciation for Hong Kong, the watchmaking industry, and his hometown of Rapperswil inspired him to establish the Albert Hausammann Foundation.
Nurturing Future Watchmakers
After a distinguished career spanning over five decades, Mr. Hausammann retired and sought to contribute to the Hong Kong community.
Albert Hausammann Foundation was birthed in November 2021. Prior to this, Mr. Hausammann had already embarked on a journey to nurture horological talent. In 2018, a Swiss student was sent abroad, and in August 2021, the first Hong Kong student entered the hallowed halls of Swiss watchmaking.
The Albert Hausammann Foundation empowers aspiring watchmakers by sponsoring their training at WOSTEP Neuchâtel. The Lavish Attic believe in the power of timepieces to tell stories, to inspire, and to connect. We're incredibly fortunate to have partnered with such talented independent watchmakers over the past 11 years. Their unique perspectives and innovative designs are enriching the world of horology and redefining what a watch brand can be. A timepiece is more than just a functional object; it's a work of art. These intricate machines embody humanity's pursuit of excellence and our desire to create something beautiful and meaningful.
We are honored to partner with the Albert Hausammann Foundation to support the next generation of watchmakers. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of six exclusive timepieces at the Phillips Hong Kong Watch Auction: XIX will be donated to this worthy cause. By supporting young talent, we hope to contribute to the future of watchmaking and ensure that the legacy of horology continues to thrive.
