A Legacy of Time: Albert Hausammann and Hong Kong
When we shared our ideas of charity auction project, Mr. Hausammann is so warmhearted and showed immediate support. Mr. Hausammann has always been deeply committed to the watchmaking community. To him, Hong Kong means more than simply a workplace. We are grateful for his support and shared vision in giving back to the industry.
A portion of the proceeds from this auction will benefit the Albert Hausammann Foundation, which aims to nurture the next generation of watchmaking talent. By supporting these young talents, we hope to perpetuate the industry's rich heritage and inspire future innovation.
Let's hear our trusted advisor Albert Hausammann shares his thoughts.
A Visionary's Journey
In 1967, a fateful job offer took Albert Hausammann from his Swiss homeland to the vibrant metropolis of Hong Kong. This move would not only shape his career but also leave an enduring legacy in the world of horology.
Hausammann joined Swiss Import Export Trading Co. Ltd., a company renowned for its exclusive agency of high-quality Swiss luxury watches, introduced prestigious brands like Breguet, Vacheron Constantin, and Jaeger-LeCoultre to the market in the 1960s. It was a time when the most coveted independent brands we know and love today were still relatively unknown and perhaps not even conceived yet. His passion for horology and his astute business acumen quickly propelled him to a leadership position, where he eventually took over the company.
Over the years, Hausammann forged strong relationships with renowned Swiss watchmakers. His deep appreciation for Hong Kong, the watchmaking industry, and his hometown of Rapperswil inspired him to establish the Albert Hausammann Foundation.
Nurturing Future Watchmakers
After a distinguished career spanning over five decades, Mr. Hausammann retired and sought to contribute to the Hong Kong community.
Albert Hausammann Foundation was birthed in November 2021. Prior to this, Mr. Hausammann had already embarked on a journey to nurture horological talent. In 2018, a Swiss student was sent abroad, and in August 2021, the first Hong Kong student entered the hallowed halls of Swiss watchmaking.
